I learned from teaching kindergarten that its more fun to learn (and teach) by singing and movement. Taiwan is KTV country and like teens everywhere, my teen students love to hear new music. Fill in the blanks worksheets (I show on the screen to save paper) are here.
My singing class is the 7th grade's most basic of English classes. I want them to at least be exposed to some basic carols as well as some modern Christmas song , as the English in pop songs are more simple than old English traditional carols.
First things first is the kids need to know all about the Christmas story -the Nativity. I found some videos on YouTube in English with Mandarin subtitles:
"Jesus is Born" with Chinese subtitles
Obviously, because of their level, I'll only expect them to sing a stanza or the Chorus of any song. They need to know some basic Christmas vocabulary and perhaps one or two students could learn some intermediate level vocabulary.

The first carol I will teach will be "Go Tell It on the Mountain" (Mandarin/ English), Vocabulary: mountain, shepherds, heavens, hills, everywhere, born, tell, silent
While shepherds kept their watching Over silent
flocks by night, Behold throughout
the heavens, There shone a
holy light: Go, Tell It On
The Mountain, Over the hillsand everywhere; Go, Tell It On
The Mountain That Jesus Christ
is born.
The shepherds
feared and trembled When lo! above
the earth Rang out the
angel chorus That hailed our Savior’s
birth: Go, Tell It On
The Mountain, Over the hills and
everywhere; Go, Tell It On
The Mountain That Jesus Christ
is born.
Down in a lowly
manger Our humble Christwas born And God send us
salvation, That blessed
Christmas morn: Go, Tell It On
The Mountain, Over the hills and
everywhere; Go, Tell It On
The Mountain That Jesus Christ
is born.
When I am a
seeker, I seek both night
and day; I seek the Lord
to help me, And He shows me
the way: Go, Tell It On
The Mountain, Over the hills and
everywhere; Go, Tell It On
The Mountain That Jesus Christ
is born.
He made me a
watchman Upon the city
wall, And if I am a
Christian, I am the least of
all. Go, Tell It On
The Mountain, Over the hills and
everywhere; Go, Tell It On
The Mountain That Jesus Christ
is born.
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heav'nly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
A song that teaches the Christmas story in modern English is Mary's Boy Child.
Mary’s Boy
Child玛丽亚的小圣婴
Mary did you know
that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary did you know
that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.
Oh Mary did you know?
The blind will see,
the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb---.
Mary did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great--I--- AM---.
