Gender Quiz

I made the gender quizzes open book style. The students were encouraged to bring their dictionaries and handouts as reference. I prefer this kind of meaningful assessment rather than the traditional regurgitation of past lessons because it allows the students to clarify what they learned by elaborating their ideas with examples. They can paraphrase what they learned by synthesizing their ideas and building upon their vocabulary (new words in the test) with what they already know. Its kind of like a lesson within the test.

I gave the 303 classes an easier infograph with 6 questions about society's impossible demands on women's appearance and how this may undermine them in the workplace. How must women look to be professional? Does looking professional  effect equal pay?

For the 302 and 301 classes I gave them an article from the Taipei Times, "Men in skirts," with 8 questions to answer. I want to know if the students think "Man skirts week" was an effective campaign for thinking about gender equality and if they have any better ideas. The article called gender a "myth" and I want to  know if they agree, among other questions.
